6 сентября 1998 года, в японской газете "Асахи" появилась статья, в которой Рихарда Зорге признали одним из ста выдающихся людей ХХ века. Впрочем, несмотря на это звучное признание, следует напомнить о том, что Зорге был осужден и казнен в Японии, как преступник, став первым иностранцем в истории страны, кому суждено такое наказание. Но японцы, как и многие другие народы, все же считают его достойным внесения в список выдающихся личностей.
Однако, с течением времени, стоит задуматься, как мы оцениваем Зорге в наши дни. Более полувека прошло с того момента, когда ему было присвоено звание Героя Советского Союза. Изменились принципы и ценности, была уничтожена страна, в которой он служил. Поэтому сейчас многие задаются вопросами: на самом ли деле он был героем? Может быть, была права руководящая фигура германской разведки, Шелленберг, называя Зорге двойным агентом? Может быть, все просто: Зорге был лишь бабником и алкоголиком, а его мифические заслуги, такие как предупреждение Сталину о грядущей агрессии Германии, лишь плод фантазии? И почему Сталин не доверял ему? И как можно объяснить провал токийской резидентуры "Рамзая", ведь ее руководителем был такой выдающийся разведчик? И вообще, что произошло до его прибытия в Токио? Ответы на все эти вопросы и многие другие можно найти в данной книге, единственной научной, нелицеприятной, но при этом максимально объективной биографии Рихарда Зорге. The Japanese national newspaper "Asahi" named Richard Sorge as one of the outstanding individuals of the 20th century. Despite the fact that he violated Japanese laws and was executed as a criminal - the first foreigner in the history of modern Japan to face such punishment. This recognition is not accidental, as in Japan, as well as around the world, true heroes are valued, and the Japanese considered Sorge worthy of inclusion in this list. Are we evaluating Sorge based on his merits today? More than half a century has passed since he was awarded the title of Hero of the Soviet Union, the country in which he served has disappeared, and moral values and perceptions of world order have changed. When remembering Sorge, many increasingly ask themselves: was he really a hero? Was the chief of German intelligence, Schellenberg, right in calling Sorge a double agent? Or perhaps it is much simpler: Sorge was greatly overrated, a womanizer and a heavy drinker, who only had mythical accomplishments such as the infamous warning to Stalin about Germany's attack on the USSR falsely attributed to him? And why, by the way, did Stalin not trust him? How could the Tokyo residency of "Ramsay" fail if its leader was such an outstanding spy? And, by the way, what happened before Tokyo?
